Precious Ramotswe decides to establish a detective agency when moving to Gaborone after her father’s death. So she becomes the one and only female PI in Botswana, dealing with all shades of crime. Of course she lives in Botswana, a quiet and cosy place on earth, where crime is often a family affair like looking for lost daughters or missing husbands, like money vanishing out of the register in a shop, like smuggling … Nevertheless sometimes it gets risky even for Mma Ramotswe.

Precious Ramotswe beschließt, eine Privatdetektei zu gründen, als sie nach dem Tod ihres Vaters nach Gaborone zieht. So wird sie die einzige weibliche Privatdetektivin in Botswana, die sich mit allen Varianten von Verbrechen befasst. Natürlich lebt sie in Botswana, einem ruhigen und gemütlichen Fleckchen Erde, wo Verbrechen oft eine Familienangelegenheit sind, wie die Suche nach verlorenen Töchtern oder vermissten Ehemännern, wie das Verschwinden von Geld aus der Kasse eines Geschäfts, wie Schmuggel … Doch manchmal wird es auch für Mama Ramotswe gefährlich.
