Valeria Ferro ist von ihrem Beruf besessen. Sie jagt Mörder, Entführer … und alle, die Kapitalverbrechen begehen. Es sind fast immer Familientragödien, die aus dem Ruder laufen. Wenn sie an einem Fall arbeitet, gibt es daneben für sie nichts. Privatleben? Sie ist sehr eng in ihre Familie eingebunden, aber immerhin hat sie noch Zeit für Affären. Ihre Vergangenheit ist dagegen nicht so privat, wie sie es sich wünscht. Ihre Mutter hat eine langjährige Haftstrafe wegen Mordes verbüßt und wird zu Beginn der Serie entlassen. Valeria hat damit natürlich ein Problem, die Familie spaltet sich. Im Laufe der Zeit kommt heraus, dass hinter diesem Mord vor fast zwei Jahrzehnten mehr steckt, viel mehr. Valeria muss sich zunehmend nicht nur mit ihren Fällen beschäftigen, sondern auch die Vergangenheit ihrer Mutter und ihrer Familie aufarbeiten.

Valeria Ferro is obsessed with her job. She hunts down murderers, kidnappers … and anyone who commits capital crimes. They are almost always family tragedies that get out of hand. When she is working on a case, there is nothing else for her. Private life? She is very closely involved with her family, but at least she still has time for affairs. Her past, on the other hand, is not as private as she would like. Her mother has served a long prison sentence for murdering her husband and is released at the beginning of the series. Valeria has a problem with this, of course, and the family splits. As time goes on, it comes out that there is more behind this murder almost two decades ago, much more. Valeria increasingly has to deal not only with her cases, but also with her mother’s and her family’s past.

Non Uccidere – Thou Shalt Not Kill!
A young woman walks the streets of Turin. She is wearing jeans and a grey long-sleeved T-shirt or jumper – almost always so simple, but she looks stunningly elegant. And it’s almost always bad weather – rain, snow. She is serious, she works for the police. She is Ispettore Valeria Ferro from the homicide department in Turin.
The series tells two stories. First there is Valeria, the murder investigator, and then there is Valeria, the private person in the midst of her family. It’s exciting and difficult from the moment it becomes clear that her private life and any murder investigations cannot be separated so easily.
Let’s start with the easy cases … the murder cases that Valeria investigates. Italy is a family paradise – and almost all the murders I remember now, off the top of my head, are family affairs. They are always these family tragedies where generations clash, where inheritances wait for heirs, where adultery is the order of the day and where abuse is involved. There are accidents, there are fatal accidents, there are planned murders. The family generally does everything to cover everything up, with good relations to politics, administration and justice coming in quite handy.
Valeria doesn’t buckle before powerful families, nor she lets herself be wrapped up by anyone during investigations in the petty bourgeois milieu. She searches for the truth with all her power and endurance in order to put the guilty behind bars. The truth, however, is always good for a surprise, brutal and sad at the same time.
She has a small team and a boss – and this is where her love affairs begin. This part of her private life sometimes interferes with her investigative work, but Valeria doesn’t let anything stop her. Does she want to start a family of her own? It doesn’t really look like it …
Her family is around her from the beginning. There is her brother, his wife and their little daughter, there is her uncle … At the beginning there is harmony and Valeria seems to feel comfortable in the security of the villa in the countryside. Then her brother brings her mother into the house.
Valeria cannot live with this. Her mother was in prison for almost two decades because she was convicted of murdering her husband, Valeria’s father. Valeria’s brother is ready to forgive his mother and plans a new start, but Valeria is upset, angry, beside herself and runs away.
It becomes clear relatively quickly that the murder case of the past is far from over. There has been an arrest and a trial, but the release of Valeria’s mother seems to set a few stones rolling. If nothing else, Valeria starts investigating and takes on the case file. She stumbles across a few inconsistencies, of course. There is the role of her father … of her mother’s husband … of her mother’s lover …
Her private life is soon massively influenced by this case, in which she, as a daughter, should not actually be investigating. Parallel to all her remaining cases, Valeria experiences her own case, in which a few things are gradually uncovered. There are, of course, other deaths and connections to organised crime. Valeria is in the middle of it all – and despairs over the statements and facts that she learns step by step and that throw her whole world into confusion.
In the end … yes – at some point all the questions are answered.
Non Uccidere – Du sollst nicht töten
Eine junge Frau läuft durch die Straßen von Turin. Sie trägt eine Jeans und ein graues langärmeliges T-Shirt oder einen Pullover – fast immer so einfach, aber sie wirkt darin umwerfend elegant. Und fast immer ist schlechtes Wetter – Regen, Schnee. Sie ist ernst, sie arbeitet bei der Polizei. Sie ist Ispettore Valeria Ferro von der Mordkommission in Turin.
Die Serie erzählt zwei Geschichten. Einmal ist da Valeria, die Ermittlerin in Mordfällen, und dann ist da Valeria, die Privatperson inmitten ihrer Familie. Spannend und schwierig wird es von dem Zeitpunkt an, wenn klar wird, dass ihr Privatleben und die Ermittlungen in Mordfällen nicht so einfach voneinander getrennt werden können.
Beginnen wir mit den einfachen Fällen … den Mordfällen, in denen Valeria ermittelt. Italien ist ein Familienparadies – und fast alle Morde, an die ich mich jetzt so spontan erinnere, sind Familiensache. Es sind immer diese Familientragödien, in denen die Generationen aufeinanderprallen, in denen Erbschaften auf Erben warten, wo Ehebruch an der Tagesordnung ist und wo es um Missbrauch geht. Es gibt Unfälle, es gibt tödliche Unfälle, es gibt geplante Morde. Die Familie tut im allgemeinen alles, um alles zu vertuschen, wobei gute Beziehungen zu Politik, Verwaltung und Justiz ganz gelegen kommen.
Valeria knickt vor mächtigen Familien genauso wenig ein, wie sie sich bei Ermittlungen im kleinbürgerlichen Milieu von niemanden einwickeln lässt. Sie sucht mit aller Kraft nach der Wahrheit, um die Schuldigen hinter Gitter zu bringen. Die Wahrheit ist immer für eine Überraschung gut, gleichzeitig brutal und traurig.
Sie hat ein kleines Team und einen Chef – und hier fangen auch schon ihre Liebesaffären an. Dieser Teil ihres Privatlebens beeinträchtigt mitunter die Ermittlungsarbeit, aber Valeria lässt sich nicht beirren. Möchte sie eine eigene Familie gründen? Danach sieht es eigentlich nicht aus …
Ihre Familie ist von Anfang an um sie herum. Da ist ihr Bruder, seine Frau und ihre kleine Tochter, da ist ihr Onkel … Zu Beginn herrscht Harmonie und Valeria scheint sich in der Geborgenheit der Villa im Grünen wohl zu fühlen. Dann holt ihr Bruder die Mutter ins Haus.
Valeria kann damit nicht leben. Ihre Mutter war fast zwei Jahrzehnte im Gefängnis, weil sie für den Mord an ihrem Mann, Valerias Vater, verurteilt wurde. Valerias Bruder ist bereit, seiner Mutter zu vergeben und einen Neuanfang zu planen, aber Valeria ist bestürzt, wütend, außer sich und läuft davon.
Relativ schnell wird klar, dass der Mord von damals längst nicht aufgearbeitet ist. Es hat zwar eine Verhaftung und eine Gerichtsverhandlung gegeben, aber die Freilassung von Valerias Mutter scheint ein paar Steine ins Rollen zu bringen. Nicht zuletzt beginnt Valeria zu ermitteln und nimmt sich die Fallakte vor. Sie stolpert natürlich über ein paar Ungereimtheiten. Vor allem ist da die Rolle ihres Vaters … damals … des Ehemanns ihrer Mutter … des Geliebten ihrer Mutter …
Schnell wird ihr Privatleben massiv von diesem Fall, in dem sie eigentlich als Tochter gar nicht ermitteln sollte, beeinflusst. Parallel zu all ihren Fällen erlebt Valeria ihren eigenen Fall, in dem nach und einiges aufgedeckt wird. Vieles ist nicht so, wie es zuerst schien. Es gibt natürlich plötzlich weitere Tote und eine Verbindung zur organisierten Kriminalität tut sich auf. Valeria ist mitten drin – und verzweifelt über die Aussagen und Fakten, die sie Schritt für Schritt sammelt und die ihre ganze Welt durcheinander wirbeln.
Am Ende … ja – irgendwann sind alle Fragen beantwortet.
