A Determined Woman
Nora Weiss lives in a beautiful, modern house on the Baltic Sea: the beach and the sea in front of her, the beach next to her … No houses and hardly any people for miles around. There are books in her house – apparently mainly novels, hundreds of books, all of which Nora claims to have read, which she sometimes proves impressively.
Nora lives alone. She is having an affair with a married man. He wants to start a new life with her, but Nora … is not really into it. It’s an on-off relationship. It gets more complicated by the fact that he works with her and is her boss. Nora can only afford many professional escapades because he holds a protective hand over her.
Then there is her father, a priest, with whom she gets on sometimes better, sometimes worse and who occasionally gets involved in her cases. There are previous stories from the GDR era, when her father was somewhere between an escape helper and the Stasi (state security) – and which suddenly become very topical. A friend with a child, Nora’s godchild, is also drawn into the professional abysses Nora is dealing with from time to time. Nora suffers as a result, but … She is a police officer with heart and soul, sense and mind.
Nora Weiss is a target investigator at the LKA (State Office of Criminal Investigation) in Schleswig-Holstein – and she is very successful in her job. Her desk is in Kiel. She also works in Lübeck, but also in the neighbouring state like in Rostock … She supports the local criminal investigation department, especially the homicide squad, so that she always has a colleague next to her. However, Nora is usually not particularly enthusiastic about this and prefers to go her own way. Teamwork is definitely not her thing. She repeatedly offends her assigned colleagues and leaves them out in the cold.
Her cases are characterised by considerable brutality. It’s understandable that internationally operating criminal organisations, to put it officially, that deal with drug and girl trafficking, prostitution and money laundering, with … do everything they can to protect their business and, of course, do not shy away from murder and kidnapping. But individual perpetrators who embark on a vendetta also murder with astonishing brutality. Then there is also the serial killer …
Nora is repeatedly drawn deep into the cases and has to fight to help justice prevail. The question often arises as to what is actually meant by justice. Who are the bad guys? Who are the perpetrators? Nora goes her own way and doesn’t let anything stop her when she thinks she has found a lead.
The areas of good and evil become blurred in the cases. There is no clear dividing line, which irritates Nora. Nora herself also leaves the famous path of virtue in order to … help, save, … Her superior covers for her and ensures that she is allowed to stay on duty.
Nora is a very determined person who shows little consideration for others. She is not necessarily likeable, but she is always on the right track, senses the truth behind lies, suspects the culprit … She is an extraordinary investigator.
